Roots Farmers Market, now in it’s seventh year, was created in part by the Durham Farmland board and Durham Farms to promote new and existing farms. We also promote clean water supplied to Durham and surrounding areas from the Neuse River Basin.  We all grow and raise what we sell and this is a great way to support truly local farms in Durham county. Please visit our farm sites below if you can and we’ll see you Saturday!

Eight Arrows Farm takes seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of nature. We seek to cultivate creation using restorative farm practices that are sustainable, safe and diversified which provide delightful, nutrient-dense food fueling health and happiness to the people we serve. We are a family-owned, multi-ethnic, and operated farm located in Roxboro, NC. We raise Cornish Cross chickens for meat, turkeys, and heritage mix hogs. Our animals live on the pasture and are rotated regularly and we supplement with organic grain.

The Family Farmstead:  flowers, eggs and plants.

Forest Table Mushrooms is a different type of farm. Locally sourced straw from agricultural operations and invasive grasses harvested right from the farm are used to grow delicious mushrooms with the smallest possible resource footprint.  Industrial growers rely on energy-intensive lights and climate control systems. Not here! While we do carefully control the humidity and heat in our grow chamber, we use North Carolina’s plentiful natural sunlight and daily temperature fluctuations to grow our crop. Our mushrooms experience a natural heat cycle throughout the day, promoting nighttime growth, just like they would experience in nature.”  Website is ForestTableMushrooms.com.

Toad Hill Farm is a small family farm raising seasonal vegetables, fruits, eggs and flowers.  We use sustainable practices (minimal tillage, minimal organic pest control) to help protect our land and share healthy, pesticide free foods and flowers with our community.  Visit our website and sign up for our weekly newsletter (http://eepurl.com/hoqCd1) for updates on what’s growing and a link to our online store for pre-orders for pickup at the Roots Farmers Market on Saturday mornings!
